The Situation
After four very successful years, Mercury Air Group's CFO is making a family decision to relocate,
unfortunately requiring him to leave his job. He has been successful, has enjoyed his association
with Mercury and will be missed.
Joe Czyzyk, Chairman and CEO of Mercury Air Group, located in Los Angeles, California, has asked Wentworth Recruiting to help him find his new financial right hand.
The Position
The Chief Financial Officer will report to the Chairman/CEO with overall accountability for the
accounting and finance function. As strategic partner with the CEO and the operational
departments, the CEO will manage, analyze and plan all finance and accounting related matters.
The CFO will have a handful of direct reports, including a corporate controller and three unit
controllers. Approximately 100 individuals in total are involved in the finance and accounting
functions throughout the company.
The Organization
Mercury Air Group was founded in 1956 by three members of the legendary Flying Tigers. Having once been public, currently it is closely held. Its revenues have reached $1 billion annually.
Mercury operates four units: MercFuel is a provider of jet fuel to the commercial airline industry
and the largest independent provider of aviation fuel to the fractional jet industry in the U.S.
Mercury Air Cargo provides cargo handling and warehouse services, logistics services, air cargo
charter and airline cargo sales worldwide. Maytag Aircraft Corporation provides the U.S.
Government with aircraft refueling, air terminal and ground handling services, base operating support (BOS), housing maintenance, weather observation and forecasting and air traffic control services. Lastly, Mercury manages Royal Terminal, Kuwait, the Middle East’s largest private air terminal facility, located at Kuwait International Airport (KWI) and owned by Royal Aviation Kuwait. Mercury is robust, profitable and growing.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be Joe Czyzyk's right hand for finance. S/he will have a track record of
